Several men of the 1st Tyneside Scottish sustained leg and foot injuries when they were fired on by machine guns from enemy tanks while trying to take cover on the embankment at Ficheux, so he may have been involved in that engagement.
Prisoner of War Yes, according to family correspondence. Held at Stalag XXI (I) Thorn in Poland. PoW Number not yet ascertained.
Died/Killed in action Research suggests death was registered September 1987, aged 68, in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Buried in Dudley Weetslade Cemetery at Cramlington, Northumberland.
