As with the two or three other men transferred to the RASC on the same day, the RASC Books record them as having transferred from the Black Watch. This is thought to have been an error, as their transfer authority is a Part Two Order from 11th Battalion of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. The men did, of course, serve in the Black Watch while they were with 1st Tyneside Scottish.

None of the military records include his middle name - this was found via genealogical research.
