The area at HVALFJORDUR where troops were accommodated is now occupied by the Icelandic Whaling Station, using basically the same buildings, although they have been enhanced and modified for modern residential and working use.

Our contact there, Magnus Hafsteinsson, who both lives and works on the site, was more than generous with his time and in sharing images he had collected, for which we were most grateful.

The photographs below were taken during the 2010 research visit.
