Lance Corporal Trotter's name emerged in the War Office's "missing" exercise conducted in 1942 - implying that he had been posted missing at some stage in the 1940 campaign in Northern France and Flanders - which is documented at The National Archives.  As with many other men involved in this exercise his return to duty may not have been accurately documented at the time.
