Posted to the 10th Battalion DLI - probably 1/9/1939. Served in Northern France with the B.E.F. Taken Prisoner of War at Arras on 20/5/1940 - notified 9/9/1940. Repatriated to the UK in 1945. Relegated to the Class Z Army Reserve 25/6/1946.
Company/Battery Not yet ascertained but possibly C Company.
Platoon or other sub-unit Not yet known.
Task or role Rifleman, as far as is known.
Joined Brigade Probably 1/9/1939.
Promotions Non known beyond Lance Corporal - though German PoW records show his as a Corporal.
Wounded Yes - German PoW records show him as slightly wounded.
Prisoner of War Yes - after capture taken to Stalag VI D and then to Camp 20A (3A) arriving on 31/5/1940. He was also held at Bau und Arbeits Bataillon 20 from 26/1/1942, Stalag VIIIB from 27/8/1943 and Oflag IIIC (possibly as a Batman), PoW number 20870.

Home address Father - John William Walton. Lived at The Oaks, Evenwood, but his family moved later to 24, West End Gardens, West Auckland.
