Divisional Royal Engineer Musketry Competition. Company Team obtained First Place.

2 April 1944

1 and 2 Platoons working on Southwold’s roadway. 3 Platoon still on leave.

3 April 1944

1 Platoon on Southwold roadway. 2 Platoon and HQ on Range.

4 April 1944

As above.

5 – 7 April 1944

Works.

Divisional Royal Engineer Boxing Competition in evening of 7th April. 3 Platoon returned from leave 6th April.

8 April 1944

Company on Double Triple Bailey on Nursery site.

9 April 1944

Church Parade. Remainder of Company on dismantling Bailey.

10 April 1944

Preparation for Exercise “BUMP”.

11 April 1944

07:30 hours. Company moves off for Concentration Area. R.P.O. ?? operative.

12 April 1944

No Company commitments on Exercise. Moved once. 1 Platoon Bded?

13 April 1944

Prisoner of War Cage built by 3 Platoon.

14 April 1944

1, 2 and 3 Platoons made 200 Fascines. Carried out recce of river (Minsmere) line in darkness.

15 April 1944

Company in harbour during day. Built bridge over MINSMERE night of 15 – 16 April.

17 April 1944

Company returned to unit location by 14:00 hours.

18 April 1944

Conservancy.

19 - 23 April 1944

Company on Works.

24 – 26 April 1944

Preparation for visit by “High Personage”.

27 April 1944

Company visited, while on training, by His Majesty the King.

28 – 29 April 1944

Bailey Bridging on Nursery site, used Bailey Crib for first time. Army Photographic Unit took photographs and cine of construction.

30 April 1944

Conservancy.

Field Return of Other Ranks dated 1st April 1944.

This Return shows a strength of 260 men in the unit against a War Establishment of 261 – leaving one Sapper short of establishment.

In Part C of the Return four men are listed as being in hospital and whose return to the unit is particularly requested. The four men have been included on the personnel list, with their details.
