In the War Office 1942 "missing" exercise it was claimed that no trace could be found of Private Woof. The limited information in the Black Watch Enlistment Books is summarised above and makes no mention of him having been a PoW, unlike so many of his comrades. Help from the family is required, together with the details from his Service Record in order to clarify his military history. He is not mentioned in the Battalion War Diary so much of the information above is speculation. His transfer to the Argylls may have been at the disbandment of the 1st Tyneside Scottish - he appears in a key Part 2 Order from the Battalion - which reinforces the assumption that he was serving in Normandy and would have participated in the Rauray battle.
