C.O. on recce for Harbouring Area and Brigade HQ for Conference – Exercise “Edward”.

3 July 1942

Exercise “Equator”. C.O. with HQ and B & C Platoons departed 05:00 hours.

4 July 1942

C.O. with HQ and Platoon returned from Exercise “Equator” at 06:00 hours.

C.O. attended Conference at 49 Division HQ regarding Exercise at 17:15 hours.

Padre visited Camp.

2/Lts Horrocks and Mabey visited 70 Brigade HQ. Details for Exercise “Edward” received.

Visit for DDS & T Brigadier Blunt.

Platoons B & C left 16:45 for Exercise “Edward” – returned 11:15 hours.

Hygiene personnel visited Camp for further tests of water and Cookhouse drains.

Major R H Lewis proceeds on ten days’ leave.

2/Lieutenant J Winton attached to HQ 49 Division for period of eight days as Camp Commandant.

12 July 1942

Company Church Parade at Much Dewchurch Parish Church at 09:30 hours.

Major Holman visited Unit accompanied by O.C. 49 Division Troops Company RASC. Authorities granted by Major Holman for essential journeys.

13 July 1942

Visit to Unit by Lieutenant Falk, Field Security Officer 49 Division.

Three lorries loaned to 2nd Kensingtons to assist with movement to new location.

14 July 1942

Visit to Unit by Lieutenant Benton, Liaison Officer, 49 Division.

Arrangements made by Captain Collier, New Zealand Forces for 15 men of the Forestry Group to be attached to the Unit.

15 July 1942

Unit took over and occupied hutted accommodation vacated by 2nd Kensingtons.

16 July 1942

Colonel Betts, CRASC 49 Division and Major Holman visited Unit.

Company attended a programme of training films.

17 July 1942

Captain Hobbs and Captain Richardson 217 D.T.R. A.T.S. R.A. called to see if suitable accommodation could be provided for vehicles for a Home Guard Exercise should the occasion arise.

Father Gaffney, R.C. Padre, called.

18 July 1942

2/Lieutenant Horrocks and 2/Lieutenant Mabey attended one-day maintenance course at Zetland Camp.

Company played cricket against 49th Division Company RASC and won.

19 July 1942

Major H Bain RASC visited Unit.

20 July 1942

Exercise “Frisk”. Captain Poole, Captain Medrington and 2/Lieutenants Mabey and Horrocks left at 03:30 hours.

Captain Porter, Western Command, called, also Captain Sinclair R.A. with reference to inspection pit for workshops.

21 July 1942

Twenty-five (immature) men reported from No.2 Driver Training Battalion, Carlisle and twenty men from 24 Tank Brigade Company RASC Norwich for duty with the Unit.

22 July 1942

Unit returned at 16:15 hours from Exercise “Frisk” .

Visit by Colonel Temple C.M.D. and D.A.D.M.S. C.M.D.

Kit inspected for 45 drivers reported on 21/7/1942.

23 July 1942

Lieutenant D Mortimer attended one-day maintenance course at Zetland Camp.

Visit by Command Welfare Officer Colonel Nicholls M.C. and Lieutenant Colonel Greene, County Welfare Officer.

24 July 1942

Visit by C.R.E. Colonel Temple and Staff Officers C.M.D. regarding Camp water supply.

Cadre classes arranged for new intake of personnel.

Details of Exercise “George” received, also instructions and narrative for Scottish Command Exercise “Dryshod”. Captain R Poole nominated as assistant to Chief Umpire for this Exercise.

2/Lieutenant J Winton returned to Unit.

25 July 1942

B and C Platoons left Company location for Exercise “George” at 05:15 hours under the command of 2/Lieutenants Mabey, Horrocks and Winton. Major R H Lewis left at 07:00 hours to join Brigade for purpose of Exercise.

26 July 1942

Working Parade at 09:00 hours.

27 July 1942

Lieutenant Webster R.E. called regarding water system.

C.O. returned at 19:45 hours from Exercise “George”.

Corporal Dyce No.11 Field Hygiene Section reported to supervise sterilisation of water tanks.

28 July 1942

B and C Platoons returned from Exercise “George” at 01:30 hours.

C.O. attended Conference on Exercise “George” at 17:15 hours accompanied by Lieutenant Mortimer and 2/Lieutenant Horrocks.
