T E D James Swaddle - auction 20 January 2016.jpg

The catalogue entry for Lot 61 at this specialist auction carries the following description :-

Two Efficiency Medals, each with TERRITORIAL suspender bar, one awarded to 4453028 SGT.J.SWADDLE. RPC; the other to 4391169 PTE.J.A.VAUGHAN. GREEN HOWARDS.

    • Private Vaughan was a prisoner of war, held in Stalag XXB in East Prussia (as, of course, were many men from 70th Infantry Brigade).

Oonagh Drage, the Military Specialist at Messrs Tennants, has advised that lot 61 came from the estate of a deceased collector, so unfortunately we have no means of identifying how Sgt SWADDLE's medal came into the collector's possession. Sincere thanks are due to Ms Drage and to Tennants for their prompt agreement to the use of their image of this award.
