He was enrolled into the Section A Reserve on 20/10/1934 and released on 19/10/1935. Following the outbreak of War he was recalled to the Colours, mobilised and posted to Ascot on 1/12/1939. He was transferred to the Corps of Military Police on 11/12/1939. He served within Scottish Command from 3/12/1941 - presumably following training specific to the RCMP and was then posted to the 49th Division Provost Company on 31/12/1942, probably on the Division's return from Iceland. He served in Normandy, which is reflected in the citation for his military MBE. Posted to X/02 List 29/6/1945. Returned to 49th Division Provost Company on 6/7/1945. Posted to Y List (E) on 13/10/1945.
