|Unit=Joined The Durham Light Infantry, T, no enlistment date but probably early May 1939, based on his Regimental Number. Posted ? 8th Bn DLI. Posted 11th Bn DLI - probably 1/9/1939. Served BEF. Listed missing 11/5/40, 31/5/40, 20/6/40. Presumed KILLED in ACTION 20/5/1940 while with 11th Bn DLI - however, the fact that he was identified on a PoW Card, but no PoW Number or Camp was identified, implies that he was taken prisoner and DIED FROM HIS WOUNDS on the same day, before he could be moved to a Camp, although he may have been moved to a hospital.

Private Bragan is commemorated in the DLI Remembrance Book held in the DLI Chapel in Durham Cathedral [[http://www.newmp.org.uk/detail.php?contentId=7014]] He is also commemorated in the Memorial Park at South Moor but there is a discrepancy in how his name is recorded - see here [[http://www.newmp.org.uk/detail.php?contentId=8629]] CWGC and Ancestry.co.uk have him as John Frederick Evelyn Clarence BRAGAN, whereas the South Moor Memorial has BRAGAN John DFC, which appears to be an error. The DLI Enlistment Book has him as BRAGAN John Frederick E C. Clarence has now been added to his name above.
