+|Home address=Son of William Winkle and May Winkle (nee Brock) of South Shields.  In the 1921 Census he is shown as 4 years and 4 months old, living with his parents at 17 Gill Street, Shelton, Stoke on Trent.  In the 1939 General Register he is listed as single, living with his widower father at 136 Fort Street, South Shields and working as a Clerk to an Insurance Agent - apparently his father.  Buried Grave 2822, Section D, South Shields (Harton) Cemetery. The private family headstone in the South Shields Cemetery reads : In loving memory of May beloved wife of William Winkle died Feb. 19th 1929 aged 49 years.  Also Elizabeth Winkle sister-in-law of the above died March 3rd 1931, aged 52 years.  Also Pte. George Wm Winkle son of the above Wm & May Winkle died Aug. 23rd 1940, O.H.M.S. aged 23 years.  They miss him most who loved him best.  At rest. Also William darling husband of Cora died Jan. 3rd 1960, aged 69 years.  Till we meet again.
