This area was used by the Brigade, and other forces in Iceland, as an artillery range, on the basis that, given it is a totally lave area, shells could do little or no damage.

During our visit in 2010 our guide took us on to the area and we were able to take a few photographs. There are also historic artillery images which were probably taken there, but that cannot yet be verified.
