In the 1939 General Register he is living with his mother and younger siblings in the house of Amos Scott, a Baker and Confectioner. Fred is also described as a Baker and Confectioner and his sister is described as "under training" in the trade. His mother is listed as a Widow working as a housekeeper for Mr Scott, who is himself a widower of 71 at that time. It is not yet clear whether 13 Ramsgate Road was the Baker's commercial premises.
