War Diary 10th Battalion Durham Light Infantry

Farewell Dinner 18th September 1939

The Officers of the 6th Battalion, DLI, held a Farewell Dinner to the Officers of 10th Battalion at the Morritt Arms Hotel, Greta Bridge, to mark the formation of this duplicate Battalion.

The records of the Durham County Archives hold a copy of the Menu Card, signed by those present, which is evidence of those who were members of the Officers’ Mess at that time. The signatures on the Menu Card have been interpreted with the kind assistance of the Editor of “The Bugle” although their appearance here is entirely the responsibility of the author. The spellings will be updated and corrected on this page should a more accurate interpretation become possible as more War Diaries are documented.

The Menu for the meal was as follows:-

Grapefruit Cocktail

Hors D’oeuvre

Consomme Claremont

Cream Portugaise

Fillet Sole Tartare Sauce
