Prisoner of War Yes - captured 15/2/1942 on the surrender of Singapore. Taken Prisoner of War by the Japanese.
Died/Killed in action Died 12/9/1944 aged 32 in the attack by an American submarine on a Japanese transport making its way to the Japanese mainland. As the ship did not carry the relevant identification, provided for under the Geneva Convention, to show that PoWs were aboard, the Americans were, sadly, unaware of the cargo. Commemorated, as are hundreds of other casualties from this attack, on the Singapore Memorial - at Column 15.
