CWGC's database record does not include details of Pte Vallely's Battalion at the time of his death. There is some suggestion that he was serving with 6th Battalion The Durham Light Infantry, but the Black Watch Enlistment Books do not show a transfer back to the DLI. The DLI Enlistment Book only shows his death from wounds, and not his transfer to the Black Watch, though that did occur - probably on 1st February 1940 along with the other men in his batch of enlistments. There is a suggestion that the transfer entry in the DLI Book was erased (having been in pencil)and the note of his death from wounds written over the top of the erasure. This implies that he was transferred back to the DLI. Pending information from his Service Record, it is assumed that he was with 6th Bn DLI at the time he was wounded.
