Thanks to the Archivist of the Glider Pilot regiment we know that....Alexander Smith joined the Glider Pilot Regiment on 22 November 1942, from the Black Watch. He is shown as part of the Headquarters of No. 1 Wing and is present in a photograph taken of them on 17 May 1944 at RAF Harwell. Here he is listed in the rank of Trooper, and as a non-flier. He transferred to the Z/T Reserve on 21 April 1946.
