It is not clear exactly when Lt JAMES was wounded. No specific mention is made in the Battalion War Diary of his injury, nor of the specific attack in which it took place. His Gallantry Citation describes his being wounded on 28th June whereas his Canadian Army Service Record - very kindly supplied by his family - indicates a wounding on 27th June. He is further described as being Killed in Action on 1st July when it may have been that he succumbed to his wounds that day and technically should perhaps have been shown as Died of Wounds. The War Diary, unfortunately, is of no help as he is not mentioned by name amongst the Officer casualties.
