454 Mountain Battery arrives in North Wales and occupies at Tan-Lan.

3 April 1942 – North Wales

Battery Commanders’ conference at Coed–y-Brenin.

5 April 1942

2/Lt Dickson posted to Regiment and inter-Regimentally posted to 454 Mountain Battery.

7 April 1942

Second in Command attended conference and made recce of Regimental camp sites at DOLGELLY.

10 April 1942

451 Mountain Battery moved from Billets in CRICCIETH to canvas camp at TRAWSFYNYDD.

11 April 1942

Draft of 27 Other Ranks left – posted away from Regiment.

Lease of camp site for 453 Mountain Battery, still at Weedon, carried out.

14 April 1942

Captain Lyman, 453 Battery, arrives Portmadoc to recce camp site.

18 April 1942

70th Infantry Brigade Signals Exercise.

Brigadier Royal Artillery, Western Command, visited 451 and 452 Mountain Batteries.

25 horses posted ? Remounts ?

20 April 1942

454 Mountain Battery on 36 hour scheme with 1st Battalion, Tyneside Scottish.

21 April 1942

Captain Overnall and Major Bish, C.S.O’s staff, Western Command, visited Regiment.

Signals Section discussed War Establishment and G1098.

Captain J E House ceased to be attached detachment Weedon and posted attached 23rd Field Training Regiment, Royal Artillery.

22 April 1942

Two horses arrived for Adjutant from Remounts, Melton Mowbray.

6 Mules and 30 Remount ponies joined detachment Weedon from Remounts, Melton Mowbray.

23 – 24 April 1942

451 and 452 carried out firing practice on Trawsfynydd ranges.

29 – 30 April 1942

454 Mountain Battery took part in 70th Infantry Brigade field firing. Firing over Infantry.

Throughout the month, 454 Mountain Battery took part in several schemes – co-operating with 10 DLI, 11 DLI and 1st TS of 70th Infantry Brigade. Much value was got from these exercises with the Infantry.
