178th Field Regiment War Diary - October 1942.

1 October 1942 New Radnor.

1 Gun detachment complete, under 1 Officer, 2/Lt Petley RA, 516 Battery was sent to Royal Ordnance Factory, Hereford to give gun drill demonstration to the employees.

Visit from General Sir George Cary, Liaison Officer, Allied Forces.

3 October 1942

The following Officers from 123rd OCTU joined the Regiment and were posted to Batteries as indicated:

2/Lieut Eaton RA 366 Battery.

2/Lieut Fegg RA 516 Battery.

2/Lieut Hamburger RA 122 Battery.

5 October 1942

The Commanding Officer, Lt Col L Rushworth-Ward M.C. RA, on Winter and Snow Warfare Course, Glenfeshie.

The Gun detachment returned from R.O.F. Hereford.

7 October 1942

A composite Battery under command of Captain R Crichton-Brown RA and consisting of Troop HQ from 366 Battery and 1 Troop each from 122 and 516 Batteries proceeded to Trawsfynydd for practice under direction of Major R A Collins RA.

10 October 1942

Commanding Officer returned from Mountain and Snow Warfare Course. Composite Battery returned from Trawsfynydd.

21 October 1942

The Main Body of 1st Belgian Field Battery left Harpton Court for winter quarters at Crickhowell.

31 October 1942

The Advance Party under Major R A Collins RA left for ULVERSTON, Lancashire by road to arrange reception of Regiment at winter location at above address.
