The use of SELFOSS as a location for a Platoon base was significant as the town was the defensive key to the Kaldadarnes airfield. The location was the one place where the Brigade suffered a death due to enemy action - as a result of an air-raid -and this will be found described within the War Diary of 1st Tyneside Scottish.
