Unit Enlisted in The Durham Light Infantry 4/12/1929 as a Regular soldier for seven years with the Colours and five on the Reserve. Understood to have been recalled to the Colours on the outbreak of War as a Reservist with the DLI. Served France - evacuated via Dunkirk.

Served Iceland.  Transferred to the RAOC under Army Council Instruction 626/39 in the rank of Private on 17/7/1942 and posted to the Armoured Training Centre RASC.  Documents to Leicester 25/8/1942.  Posted to 70th Brigade HQ and understood to have worked in the Brigade Workshops.
