Unit Enlisted in the Cheshire Regiment - dates not known. Transferred to, or re-enlisted in, the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers. Posted to the 9th Battalion. Served B.E.F.? Served Malaya. DIED 22/8/1943 at Sunkrae on the Burma-Siam border whilst a prisoner of the Japanese.

Died/Killed in action DIED of Dysentery 22/8/1943 (Regimental records). Buried initially in Grave No. 2, Block B, Row 4, No. 2 Cemetery - Sunkrae. Re-interred December 1945 in Grave B3.H.3. Thanbyuzayat War Cemetery. Headstone inscription reads:- "THE SWEET REMEMBRANCE OF THE JUST SHALL FLOURISH WHEN THEY SLEEP IN DUST". The reburial record does not show a date of death but Fus Hemmings is listed with other casualties in date order which would support a death date of 22/8/1943. CWGC records may have included an error in which that date is shown as 22/8/1945.
