Transferred to the Black Watch 20/12/1939, and posted to the 1st Tyneside Scottish 1/2/1940. Served with the B.E.F. in France. Taken Prisoner of War - probably around 20th May 1940. Repatriated - date not yet known. Relinquished his Commission on the grounds of disability 30/11/1945 and granted the rank of Honorary Captain.

The 1939 General Register (reference FHDK 554 - 3) shows him as living with his wife and children at Greenlaw, Newcastle Road, Chester-le-Street. Subsequently lived at 18, Dryden Rd. North, Low Fell, Gateshead, and Millfield Grove, Tynemouth.
