It is assumed that Samuel had been training in Northern Ireland at the time of his death and may not at that time have been posted to a Battalion.
Home address Father - John Charles Kirkham (1876 - 1951), mother - Catherine Smith (1884 - 1924). In 1939 he was resident in Lancashire and was working as a glass bottle sorter.

The spelling of his surname requires further checking - the DLI Enlistment Book shows KIRKHAM while CWGC has KIRHAM - that may indeed be an error.
