Home address Enlistment documentation shows Pte Cooper as working as a butcher immediately before joining the Army, employed by a business based at 1 Alexandra Terrace, Penshaw. The 1939 General Register - taken just before his enlistment, shows him as living with his mother and brother at 8, Douglas Terrace, Penshaw. His mother later moved to 4, West View, Penshaw where William lived with her on his return from the Army and at the time of his marriage. Married Margaret Parr (1921 - 2008) on 14/5/1949 in All Saints Church, Penshaw.
