Lieutenant Murray is mentioned positively several times in Dr Tom Renouf's book "Black Watch" in the chapter dealing with the battle of Rauray and, indeed, was his Platoon Commander. After the transfer of men to the 5th Battalion, Black Watch, on the disbanding of the Tyneside Scottish, Lt Murray served in A Company and as the Platoon Commander of it's 7 Platoon - in which L/Cpl Renouf also served. Thanks are due to Lt Murray's family for providing additional information, and his photograph, for this page.
