CRA visits BUDAREYRI and SEYDISFJORDUR per S.S. GREENLAND.
3 November 1940
08:30 hours. German ‘planes over Kaldadarnes and Reykjavik. 3 Sections 4th (H) A.A. Battery in action – fired 38 rounds.
7 November 1940
Weather very cold – fjord freezes. R.A. Operation Order No 2 issued to Units. (No copy included with the file at The National Archives).
“A” Troop 273/69th Field Regiment, R.A. carry out Drill Order.
8 November 1940
Field Firing practice carried out at Kleifervatn by A/386 Field Battery R.A. (143 Field Regiment) in conjunction with 11 DLI. Bad road conditions curtail exercise. Inclement weather with heavy snow showers.
10 November 1940
CRA wires from SEYDISFJORDUR asking for shipping information.
11 November 1940
Adverse weather conditions cause postponement of Field Firing Exercise for 143 Field Regiment on November 12th and 13th.
16 November 1940
Received Warning Order for “F” Troop 274 Field Battery, R.A. to move to BUDAREYRI on 18/11/1940.
17 November 1940
Heavy snowfall – communications difficult. CRA flies from BUDAREYRI to AKUREYRI to visit 274 Field Battery, R.A.
18 November 1940
CRA flies from AKUREYRI and arrives Reykjavik 13:00 hours.
Movement instructions received for “F” Troop 274 Field Battery to move on Thursday, less rear party of 1 Officer and 8 Other Ranks, guns and rest of equipment. Weather changes and thaw sets in.
21 November 1940
143 Field Regiment, R.A. carry out Field Firing practice in conjunction with Tyneside Scottish at Kleifervatn. “F” Troop leave Reykjavik (less rear party) for BUDAREYRI.
22 November 1940
Weather changes again – more snow and hard frost causing further postponement of Field Firing at Kleifervatn.
27 November 1940
Thaw sets in once more with heavy rains.
29 November 1940
Warning Order received for Rear Party “F” Troop to sail on Monday 2 December 1940.
