6th August 1943 HAMILTON.

Lt Col Cassels re-assumed command of the Battalion on his return from leave.

8th – 12th August 1943

Lt Col Cassels, Captain Brennan and two Lieutenants took part in the Signal Exercise “CONTACT II”.

17th – 18th August 1943

Rehearsals were carried out for the Field Firing Exercise “BEACHCOMBER”, which was a demonstration to the Brigade of a beach landing from Landing Craft Assault, followed by an attack. The Battalion was assisted by one Company of 10th DLI, details of 11th DLI, 187 Field Ambulance and 144 Royal Armoured Corps.

20th August 1943

Exercise “BEACHCOMBER” took place and was watched by;

General Sir Bernard Paget, C-in-C Home Forces,

Lt General Sir Kenneth Anderson, Army Commander,

Lt General F.E. Morgan,

Lt General J.T. Crocker, Corps Commander,

Lt General Crerar (Canadian Forces),

Brigadier General Palma (U.S. Forces),

Major-General Barker, Divisional Commander,

in addition to the 10th and 11th DLI.

The Battalion was congratulated for its performance by all attending.
