At this point it appears that the 70th Brigade Ordnance Workshop – previously under the auspices of the Royal Army Ordnance Corps – was now under the control of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. The file cover for September helpfully shows both designations.

1 September 1942 – Hereford.

Major J D Noble went to LEICESTER to attend 6th SENIOR OFFICERS’ REGIMENTAL COURSE.

6 September 1942

16:00 hours. Civil air raid warning sounded ALERT.

16:30 hours. ALL CLEAR sounded. No sign of hostile aircraft.

8 September 1942

07:00 hours. Captain R F Davidson and 2/Lt Turnbull proceeded on 49 Division exercise WETSHOD to act as A.M.L.O.s (Liaison Officers).

9 September 1942

22:00 hours. Captain R F Davidson and 2/Lt Turnbull returned from WETSHOD.

16 September 1942

Major J D Noble returned from course at LEICESTER.

21 September 1942

Major J D Noble proceeded on privilege leave.

22 September 1942

Major Wakehan O.C. 289 Field Park Company Royal Engineers appointed O.C. Troops HEREFORD RACE COURSE by 49 Division.

28 September 1942

Range practice on Ross ranges for all personnel – rifle and Bren Gun.

30 September 1942

Range practice.

Major J D Noble returned from privilege leave.

Technical training and regimental training programmes being carried out each day.

G1098 approximately 80% complete. Main deficiencies - kits of hand tools for fitters and armourers. All vehicles deficient except one 15cwt, one 30cwt and one motorcycle.
