Served Normandy. Posted to A. R. E. at the end of December 1944.

Home address Father - Stuart Meggitt Tyzack (1885 - 1954), mother - Ottilie Auguste Crescenz Mainzer (1879 - 1960). In the 1911 Census they lived in Eccleshall, Sheffield. Lived at 7, Williamson Road, Sheffield. Company Director. Major Tyzack also held a Royal Aero Club Certificate, number 15084, gained in a De Havilland Gipsy I on 2/7/1937. Married Gertrude M. Firth Q4 1952 in Sheffield. At the time of his death he lived at 78, Kingfield Road, Sheffield.

Major Tyzack's Citation for the award of his Military Cross can be found in The National Archives at File Reference WO 373/56/677 and reads as follows:-

"On 10 JUN Maj TYZACK landed in NORMANDY in comd of 294 Fd Coy. From that date until the end of DEC when he left my comd on posting to A.R.E. he led his Fd Coy with conspicuous efficiency, gallantry and devotion to duty.

In the break-out from the bridgehead his Coy built three brs under enemy shell-fire, enabling the leading inf bde to force the retreat of the enemy.

He organised a combined A.R.E. and RE aslt team in sp of the attack of 146 Inf Bde on Le Harve on 11/12 Sep during which his own men cleared mines under fire and smashed cement road blocks to assist our armour to enter the city.

Due to excellent org he built a br over the Albert Canal NORTH of LIERRE on 23 Sep in record time, followed by a br under fire over the TURNHOUT CANAL on 27 Sep.

His unit was conspicuous in its efficiency in the adv over the R MARK up to the R MAAS at WILLEMSTADT.

In NOV he was filling craters and bridging EAST of PANNINGEN with only a very this screen of tps ahead.

Never did his unit fail in a task. They built many brs, 12 under fire. Always he was present at times of difficulty and danger. He was unsparing of himself and heedless of fatigue and danger. His organisation of his work throughout was excellent, and his unit reflected his courage, energy and outstanding powers of leadership."

The Citation was put forward by the Commander of 11 Group Royal Engineers and endorsed by the Lieutenant General in Command of 8 Corps District.
