The McGregor Card Index shows Lt Winter as Adjutant to the 8th Battalion at the start of the War but also shows him on the 11th Battalion Nominal Roll as at 1/9/1939 and 5/5/1940. His presence with the Battalion in France as an A/Captain on 5/5/1940 is confirmed by the Weekly Field Return of Officers of that date. The Field Return of Officers shows him as Adjutant of the 11th Bn over that initial period.
