Died/Killed in action DIED of Dysentery 5/7/1943. Buried initially in Grave 12, at Tonchan South, by Captain J Collins 2/18th Garwhal Rifles. Re-interred 19/2/1946 in Grave 8.B.43. Kanchanaburi War Cemetery. Headstone inscription reads:- "IN MEMORY OF JAMES. REMEMBERED BY HIS FAMILY, GRANDFATHER, SISTERS, BROTHERS". Probate granted 12/4/1946 at Newcastle upon Tyne to John Thomas Holleywell and Mary Ellen Holleywell, his wife (James' grandparents).
Home address Grandson of Mr and Mrs John Thomas Holleywell of Alnwick, Northumberland. Married Emma Sproat, Q2 1926, Morpeth, Northumberland. He and his wife (according to Regimental records) had lived at 60, St George's Crescent, Alnwick although Emma Jane Holleywell's death was registered in December 1942 at the age of 36.

James Holleywell, who died of disease in 1943, appears to be the brother of Edward Holleywell, killed in action in Northern France 1940. They have adjacent Regimental Numbers and clearly joined up together.
