War Diary 756th Field Company, Royal Engineers, June 1943
1 – 3 June 1943 STOURBRIDGE.
Company training as Programme on Appendix I included Battle Drill and Bailey Bridge construction. Appendix I attached to the War Diary. This Appendix was either not photographed at Kew or was missing from the original file.
4 June 1943
Company gives demonstration of bridge building at ASHORNE HILL to members of the British Iron and Steel Control Ltd, Ministry of Supply and War Office officials. The bridge – a 110 foot triple Single Bailey was built in 1 hour 35 minutes over a gap that had not been bridged previously. Bombing from aircraft, fifth column activity and Enemy counter-attacks produced incidents to add to the tactical setting of the scheme. Tanks and the complete Company passed over immediately on completion.
5 June 1943
Company returns in convoy to STOURBRIDGE.
6 – 13 June 1943
Company training as Programme at Appendices J and L. See Appendices attached to War Diary. These Appendices were either not photographed at Kew, or were missing from the original War Diary file.
14 – 20 June 1943
Company training as Programme at Appendix K. See Appendix attached to War Diary. All Driver Operators taken separately on one week Refresher Course. (See programme at Appendix L). These Appendices were either not photographed at Kew, or were missing from the original War Diary file.
15 June 1943
3 Platoon moves under command 757 Field Company to Bridging Camp at HALTON.
21 – 27 June 1943
Company, less 3 Platoon, training to Training Programme at Appendix M included construction of Class 70 Bailey Bridge. See Appendix M attached to War Diary. This Appendix was either not photographed at Kew, or was missing from the original War Diary file.
21 – 25 June 1943
Officer Commanding on recce in South West Scotland for mock-up Company position to be constructed by Company for 147 Brigade assault practice. Visits 3 Platoon training at HALTON Bridging Camp.
26 June 1943
Demonstration of Bailey Bridge construction to the RAF.
28 June 1943
Bailey Bridge equipment returned.
29 and 30 June 1943
Company prepares to move to HALTON Bridging Camp.
